CAPITOLINE MUSEUMS
The first public collection in the world (1471)
housed in the two palaces designed by Michelangelo and connected
by un underground tunnel. Spectacular equestrian statue of Marcus
Aurelius (2nd century A.D.), the only equestrian bronze statue to
survive from ancient Rome. Don't miss the Dying Gaul and Capitoline
Venus, the Capitoline Wolf, the Spinario ('boy with thorn') and
the Bruto Capitolino. Great number of Roman portrait busts (emperors
and philosophers). In the picture Gallery paintings dating from
the 14th to the 17th century (Titian, Bellini, Rubens, Guercino
and Caravaggio).
